IN HONOR OF ROBERT BURNS' BIRTHDAY

Here's a photo of the MacKenzie tartan that my Dad brought back from his last trip to Scotland. I love the richness of its deep colors.

Lucy's Birthday Luncheon

Tuesday, after Bible Study, a small group gathered at my house to celebrate Lucy's 86th birthday--she truly is amazing!

After enjoying some homemade butternut squash soup and veggie chips, using napkins that said "When you were born, they had to invent fancy," I then served the main course of Chicken Tetrazzini and salad. Then we had birthday cake (of course!) and presented small gifts to the birthday girl, who was very happy with the whole event.

As usual, I forgot to take photos...

JANUARY THAW

Every year it seems we get a little break from the frigid weather known as the "January Thaw." Today the temps are supposed to be in the mid-forties with no snow or winds, and even warmer temps later on in the month.

Yesterday was mild, too. Joan and I were happy to be out shopping without having to brace ourselves against the cold. We also enjoyed the bright sunshine in contrast to the usual gray skies of New Jersey winters (which have returned today.)

As a side note, Rick was called to jury duty this week. After reporting in person on Tuesday, he was dismissed the rest of the week without having been chosen as a juror for any trial. Whew!

Joyce's Winter Party

In spite of an inch of snow on the ground and continuing snow showers, only one of Joyce's invited guests missed the party. We all enjoyed lots of good food, yummy desserts and lively conversation.

There were also many feathered friends visiting the bird feeder outside! We watched cardinals, woodpeckers and a steady variety of small birds take their turns at the "buffet" while we enjoyed our indoor fare. Since there were three January birthdays represented, we sang "Happy Birthday" three times--with the appropriate name inserted each time, of course. (Joyce in the green blouse, Lucy with her red hat and Ginny with a gray jacket.)

Everyone had a good time and got home safely. What a pleasant way to spend a winter day!
